The Humanities Building
The massive Humanities Building on the UW-Madison campus has been used by hundreds of thousands of students, faculty, and staff since 1969. It is now facing impending demolition. The Humanities Building: Do you love it or hate it? is a book consisting of 100 drawings by Madison-based author/artist Doug E. L. Haynes. Alongside the art are stories contributed by students, alumni, faculty, and staff about their experiences with and musings on the building. As the subtitle implies, some love it and others hate it. The strong reactions provoked by this building are worthy of reflection as we consider what happens when a place that holds memories is gone.
