The image is of an artwork and essay from my daughter created at the time I had surgery and she was in Kindergarten. The text (corrected for spelling) says:

My dad had surgery today and he has to sleep downstairs and my Grandma is sleeping at my house.

She wrote this at the time of my cancer surgery in 2005. Subsequently I wrote a manuscript illustrated with daily self-portraits during the chemo that followed. That manuscript was titled Self Portrait with a Crab. I was grateful that she was rooting for me and included her image and essay in the manuscript. As of yet Self Portrait with a Crab has not been published.
